Leslie Lipton is a native New Yorker who now attends Barnard College. As a freshman in high school, Leslie fell into dieting. Almost without realizing what was happening, she became enmeshed in the secret world of food restricting. She succeeded in her struggle with Anorexia Nervosa but at a cost. She lost her high school years to the disorder. While struggling with recovery Leslie began her novel , Unwell, which chronicles the descent of a teenage girl into this life-threatening emotional disorder. Told from the inside out, Unwell takes the reader on a psychological journey into the distorted world of the eating disordered.
Today, fully recovered, Leslie has become an advocate for eating disorder awareness and prevention, helping those people who are either suffering with an eating disorder or are involved with someone who is afflicted. She has spoken at numerous colleges and universities, and has made appearances on television and radio, bringing her message of hope.
In addition to her work in eating disorders, Leslie volunteers her free time in the ASPCA - working in adoptions and being a foster mom to litters of orphaned kittens. Along with her passion for animals, Leslie is equally passionate about the human spirit. She hopes to be a clinical psychologist one day and plans to marry her love of psychology and animals by using pets in her work. Leslie has always been an avid storyteller and writer. She's been telling stories since she was old enough to talk and writing them down since she was old enough to write. Unwell is her first novel.
